The Lost Impressionist – John Russell

A biography of John Peter Russell, who left Sydney for fin-de-siecle Europe to attend art school, the only Australian painter to have been closely associated with some of the most influential artists of nineteenth-century France, and friend to fellow pupil Vincent Van Gogh, painting the first oil portrait of the artist; consistently overlooked, returning to live in Sydney in relative obscurity, however brought to public attention in recent years by a retrospective of his work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and a feature-length documentary 'Australia's Lost Impressionist: John Russell'.
