Over 6,000 entries; 'abacus' to Zosimus, 1,640pp., people, places, objects, events, ideas: the length and breadth of the ancient world; the third edition offering a wider scope: linguistics, Jewish studies, women's studies are treated as well as the "classical" subjects; new entries include Latin anthologies, Jewish art, ancient religious beliefs, emotions, film, popular culture, gender, kinship and many more; mythological figures, like Aerope or Danae, and lesser gods and goddesses are incorporated, and there is an added focus on two new areas: 'anthropology' and 'reception'.
